Provision of engineering services (3. Design Development, Documentation & Procurement, 5. Contract Administration & inspection and 6. Close Out) for the pgrade of this provincial road in the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, including earthworks, layer works, surfacing, stormwater drainage, non-motorised transport facilities and associated road furniture. The project area is very flat and with sandy porous insitu material and the combination presented drainage challenges relating to limited daylighting and siltation. Construction activities were also challenged by above average rainfall followed by subsequent consequential days and the need to redo some of the work due to erosion. Commencement of construction also coincided with the first Covid-19 lockdown announcement presenting contractual challenges relating to the establishment on site however this was successfully managed.

Another challenge was the management of CPG contractors with unresonable demands but this was also managed efficiently. Their procurement process was longer than expected. There were 16 CPG contractors namely (10 x Grade 1, 2 x Grade 2, 2 x Grade 3, 1 x Grade 4 and 1 x Grade 6).
